2016 Woodland Goddess Reserve Red Blend

AWARDS:

DOUBLE GOLD- Washington Wine Awards (previously recognized as Seattle Wine Awards)

GOLD- NCW Wine Award

This is the wine that started it all! Woodland Goddess is the realization of Winemaker Gary Seidler’s vision for Silvara Callars, and exactly the kind of red that he envisioned when starting more than a decade ago.

After a successful career creating, running, and selling half a dozen business, and retiring before the age of 50, Gary earned his degree at UC Davis—essentially, it’s the Harvard of the wine world—and decided to head north, to what eventually became our little slice of Washington State heaven.

His goal was to make a red wine that could compete with the best of France, Italy, Spain, California, Australia, and beyond, but that would also express the majesty and honesty of the Pacific Northwest.

The result is the Woodland Goddess red blend, a wine that, vintage after vintage, is among our most popular. In 2016, Gary blended 45.5% Cabernet Sauvignon with, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec, and even a dash of Cab Franc, which adds a barely perceptible but crucial floral lift to the finish.

Sip after sip, this is a ripe, generous Cab-based blend from the Horse Heaven Hills AVA that bursts with exuberant aromas of purple fruit, plums, black raspberries, cedar, and sweet spice—clove, allspice, cinnamon—and a plush, velvety palate with flavors of ripe mountain berries, blackberry coulis, figs, black licorice, vanilla, and cardamom. Power and elegance rarely co-exist so seamlessly.

2018 Carmenere

Winemaker’s Notes: Our 2018 Carménère shows just how remarkable this grape variety—which has wowed the world since being adopted as the signature red grape in Chile—can be here in Washington State. We’ve sourced our fruit entirely from the renowned Canyon Vineyard Ranch in the Yakima Valley AVA, adding just a dollop of Petit Verdot and aging it for 22 months in about one-third new American oak barrels.

Technical Details:

Varieties: 99% Carmenere, 1% Petit Verdot

2018 Malbec

Winemaker’s Notes: The wine world has justifiably fallen in love with Malbec, a grape so delicious that it skyrocketed Argentina’s entire wine industry to international fame. As much as we love those wines, we’ve never believed that Argentina should have a monopoly on this fantastic variety (it did originate in France, after all). Winemaker Gary Seidler searched for years before discovering small quantities of world-class Malbec growing right nearby in Columbia Valley.

2018 Petite Verdot

Our 2018 Petite Verdot from Walla Walla, WA is a wine of mystery and allure, with an inky purple color that beckons the curious to take a sip. As the wine opens up, it reveals a complex bouquet of blackberry, violets, and sagebrush. Evocative of a wild and untamed landscape. On the palate it is a masterful blend of dark fruit and black pepper notes, creating a symphony of flavors that dance across the tongue. The wine’s long finish is like a lingering melody, leaving a lasting impression on anyone who tries it. With only a little more than 1,000 tons of this varietal harvested each fall in Washington, this is a rare and precious gem that is not to be missed. It pairs perfectly with grilled proteins.

2018 Sangiovese

Our 2018 Sangiovese blend is being sourced from the Clos Cheval Vineyards in Lake Chelan. A touch of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec was added to round out this captivating blend. Sangiovese is in fact the most planted grape in central Italy. In Washington we are able to produce a bigger bodied version, with notes of coffee and dark fruits that are not commonly seen in the Italian versions. Our blend opens with notes of fresh strawberries and black currants. Delicate aromas of espresso and spice adds a seductive layer of depth mid-palate. The finish lingers with bing cherry that will make your mouth water. I recommend pairing this wine with spice driven-foods or your favorite grilled protein.

2019 Barbera

Gary’s new go-to wine- the Barbera is coming from Red Mountain; one of Washington’s most esteemed AVA’s that has received worldwide acclaim as of late. The Barbera first captivates with fragrant aromas of raspberry preserves, blueberry compote, and violets. Midpalate the silky tannins will unfold and envelope your senses with notes of dried cherries and hints of black pepper. Bright, yet full bodied, it’s an intriguing combination that will keep you reaching for your glass. Pair with: The mouthwatering acidity invites you to pair this wine with your favorite tomato based Italian dishes.

And in 2019, our winemaker Gary nailed all of those elusive Cabernet markers.

2020 High Mountain Huckleberry

Winemaker’s Notes: We’ve always believed that fruit wine had serious potential, able to offer complexity, precision, and the kind of deliciousness that makes you crave an immediate second glass. And yet, after years of tasting every example we could get our hands on, we couldn’t find one that lived up to our expectations. So we decided to take matters into our own hands.

The result—our High Mountain Huckleberry Rosé—is everything we’ve been searching for in fruit wine! Our rendition finds a scintillating balance between mouthwatering acidity and sweetness of fruit, leveraging huckleberry’s natural talents to “amp up” some of the finest  Horse Heaven Riesling from the Pacific Northwest. The result is a rosé that’s slightly sweet, tart and floral,  but crisp and refreshing!
