I tasted 39 different Dolcettos before I made this one. None of them were the bottle I'd had on a Piedmont table years earlier, drinkable young, better with time, balanced enough for a Tuesday dinner or a Saturday five years from now. This is the one that finally got there.
In the high desert light of Washington’s Columbia Valley, Dolcetto takes on a new voice, one shaped by basalt-rich soils, cool nights, and the long, dry growing season that defines this region. Our 2022 vintage is a study in balance: fruit-forward yet structured, expressive yet restrained, with a quiet elegance that speaks to the land.
The grapes were harvested in early October, when daytime warmth gave way to crisp evening air, preserving acidity and deepening flavor. Fermented in stainless steel and aged briefly in neutral oak, the wine retains its varietal purity while gaining subtle texture and polish.
In the glass, it shows a vibrant ruby hue with violet undertones. Aromatics of black cherry, wild plum, and dried rose petal rise gently, layered with hints of anise, graphite, and mountain herbs. On the palate, the wine is supple and juicy, red fruit leads, followed by savory spice and a whisper of minerality. Tannins are soft but present, giving the wine shape without weight. The finish is dry, floral, and refreshingly clean.
